COP28

COP28 will take place from 30 November – 12 December 2023, in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

We are sailing the same troubled waters, but in very different boats. Vulnerable countries that contribute the least to climate change suffer the most. Our Indigenous people have always lived in harmony with nature. It’s this relationship that makes us a vital part of climate solutions. Protecting Indigenous people and knowledge is climate justice.

Conference of Parties (COPs) take place every year, and are Climate Change conferences hosted by the United Nations. COP28 is the 28^th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Almost every country across the world is represented at COPs, and over 70,000 delegates will attend COP28 in UAE. These delegates are made up of political leaders, business leaders, indigenous peoples, young people, scientists and other experts, as well as stakeholders.

The annual COP sees people across the world come together to discuss and decide on ways to address the climate crisis.

Faith Pavilion at COP28

New to COP this year is a Faith Pavilion in the Green Zone.

It is an inter-faith space to explore faith, science, climate and humanitarianism, hosted by the Muslim Council of Elders in collaboration with the COP28 Presidency, the UN Environment Programme and other global partners.

Addressing the impacts of human-induced climate change requires interdisciplinary cooperation and efforts across all segments of society, including from religious, spiritual, and Indigenous traditions. In recognition of this vital need for collaboration with leaders, politicians, NGOs, businesses, women, youth, and civil society representatives, the Faith Pavilion aims to serve as a platform and coordination hub to catalyse more ambitious, effective, holistic and just climate action.

Our Vision, the Faith Pavilion

The Faith Pavilion has a whole programme of sessions and events that you can tune into from home, by watching the livestream here. It will host over 65 sessions, bringing together religious representatives, indigenous peoples, scientists, civil society representatives, young people and political leaders. The Faith Pavilion aims to facilitate intergenerational and inter-faith dialogue, and further the role of religion and spirituality in the climate movement.
