Photos of My Son

Our poet in residence, Lucy Berry, produced ‘Photos of My Son’ for National Poetry Day 2018, on October 4th.

In Photos of My Son, Lucy referred to the young men who often feature on television news. “The TV news that impacts me most is news that involves and shows young men” she commented, continuing, “I am under no illusion as to why that is. It is because I can’t help imagining my dear son in all these world predicaments. This poem is about my identification with all those other young men who could be my son.”

“If we are all children of God then anyone’s pleasure or horror should be ours too. Jesus is present to us in trouble and in people in trouble. The sons of the world are the sons of God and stand in for us for The Son God, in which case, there is no such thing as a stranger.”
