Stay and Pray

You are here: Home / Stay and Pray

Short, daily prayers for justice and peace

Join us in praying each day for issues affecting our society and the wider world.

Available on Facebook, Twitter and by email.

Weekly prayers of intercession

We put our daily Stay and Pray prompts into a weekly digest to be used as a basis for prayers of intercession. You can use these in collective worship such as in a church service, small group or youth gathering. We update these intercessions each Friday. You can download the prayers or read them below.

Weekly intercessions for 30 September – 6 October

Creator God, we give thanks for the young people challenging 32 countries to take more action towards reducing the impact of the climate crisis. God, thank you for the courage, commitment and conviction of young people.

At the start of Black History Month, we give thanks for the impact of people of colour in society, culture and history in the UK and globally. Loving God, thank you for creating us all in your image in such wonderful diversity.

During Good Money Week (2-8 Oct), we pray for personal and national financial sustainability. God, we pray that individuals and businesses will make ethical decisions that create an economic system that works for everyone.

Following UK government approval of the development of the Rosebank oilfield, we pray that environmental protections would be reinforced. God, in a time of climate crisis, may economic decisions walk in step with ecological concerns.

During Challenge Poverty Week in Scotland (2-8 Oct), we pray for all those living in poverty. God of justice, may the work of charities and campaigners be strengthened and the Scottish and UK governments have determination to end poverty for all.

We pray for those affected by the recent floods in Cape Town, South Africa. Compassionate God, comfort those who are distressed, experiencing disruption and devastation, and hold those who are mourning in your loving care.

We pray for all those attending 3Generate, the Methodist children and youth assembly. Transforming God, we pray that those attending will be inspired and challenged, and empowered to continue being agents of positive change.

All this we pray, in Jesus’s name.

Amen.
